Sound & Vibration: Everything that exists is in a state of vibration. And if it is vibrating, it has a sound. Our human ears may not be attuned to that sound, but nevertheless, those sounds are there, traveling through the ethers co-mingling with other sounds and vibrations.
Sound is measured in Hertz or Hz — cycles of sound per second — so a string vibrating 100 times per second will create a sound that can be measured at 100 Hz. The slower a sound vibrates, the lower we perceive it and the faster a sound vibrates, the higher we perceive it. If a frequency vibrates quickly enough, we perceive it as light (color).
Qualities of Sound:
Sound determines the density of matter and its form (Bones vibrate at lower Hz than body fluids).
Sound removes obstructions (Lithotripter machine that can dissolve kidney/gallstones through sound).
Sound frequencies can relay information (Frequencies of vibrating energy are roughly 100 times more efficient in relaying information within a biological system than physical signals such as hormones, neurotransmitters and other growth factors* Dr. Colin W. F. McClare 1974).
Disease & Sound: Dis-ease occurs when an organ or other portion of the body is vibrating out of tune. Through the principle of resonance, sound can be used to change disharmonious frequencies of the body back to their normal, healthful vibrations.
Harmonics/Overtones: Mathematic ratios of the fundamental (a single sounded note). The first harmonic vibrates twice as fast, the second, three times as fast. Overtones shape the individual sounds we hear and give instruments their uniqueness. Specific overtones are most prominent in specific instruments. The most prominent overtones are call formants.
Entrainment: The ability of more powerful rhythmic vibrations of one object to change the less powerful rhythmic vibrations of a second object, causing the second object to synchronize its rhythms with the first.
Intentions: the purpose behind the sound. Intention encompasses the overall state — physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects — of the person making, and receiving, the sound. When we align with the purpose of the Higher Self or Divine Will, we become the vehicle for sacred sound.
